Insomnia
Chronic insomnia disorder is a common condition characterized by difficulty in falling asleep or staying asleep, or waking up earlier than the required time, lasting more than 3 months. Symptoms of insomnia affect approximately 40% of the population and can be very disabling. Patients with insomnia often complain of fatigue, cognitive difficulties (scattered attention, forgetfulness), mood swings and daytime sleepiness.
Insomnia has been associated with increased mortality and cardiovascular risk, as well as a higher risk of traffic and work accidents. Pharmacological treatment of insomnia generally has a temporary effect, with the development of tolerance to the medication and subsequent reappearance of symptoms. The most effective therapy for chronic insomnia disorder is cognitive behavioral therapy. This type of treatment aims to modify behaviors and cognitions that are recognized as perpetuating factors of chronic insomnia. The long-term effectiveness of this therapeutic approach for insomnia has been documented in several studies and clinical trials.
The CNS Insomnia program is aimed at people who have been suffering from chronic insomnia for more than 3 months. It consists of:
1 individual Neurology consultation (sleep consultation),
1 Psychology consultation,
5 group sessions lasting 1.5 hours.
During the sessions, we will discuss the mechanisms of sleep and the habits necessary for natural sleep. We will analyze each participant’s sleep habits, offering suggestions to avoid perpetuating insomnia, and we will carry out relaxation training.
